The Cyclone That Wasn't
I have been away to New Zeland and now I am back. It was a much needed holiday - after about 4 years of not being away from home for more than a few days I really needed it. And, it was really a joy, New Zealand is quite beautiful: I loved the lakes with their mountainous backdrops and the adrenaline buzz of white water rafting. I didn't get to swim with dolphins because of the weather but there is always a next time.
A little before we left New Zealand I said a prayer to God thanking Him for keeping us safe. I felt Him say back " I am not finished yet" At the time I assumed it was nothing more than that the holiday wasn't over. But it turned out to be more than this. About a week before departure we heard of a tropical cyclone ( Lusi) that was due to hit New Zealand and people seemed to think it would hit quite hard http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/cyclone-lusi-new-zealand-prepares-3239320 and it was due to hit us when we were attempting to leave the country.
Due to our journey taking place over a few forms of travel: Ferry, internal flight and inernational flight we contaed out managers to make sure they knew it could delay us and kept and eye on the forecasts. I was also worried about Christchurch still getting back on its' feet from the 2011 earthquake and now struggling with flooding - we had decided to visit its Restart shopping mall made of shipping containers days before ... I prayed for safe passage and asked if my house group would pray too. I also prayed for the people of Christchurch and that they would be spared and any damage would be superficial.
And so I believe we had an answer to prayer when the storm weakened and mainly hit the Northern tip of North Island, and then tracked northwest of Auckland sparing what could have been serious damage. Our transport back home was unaffected - seas were calm on the ferry, the internal flight went to plan with a cautious landing into Auckland and the international flight out of Auckland left on schedule. As I understand it it affected NZ with strong winds and rain but nothing as severe as it was originally thought to be.
Thank you Father for keeping us safe.
